Dogs such as Cadet go through months of extensive training and behavior classes. To be successful, Cadet must demonstrate complete loyalty and unhesitating obedience to his handler. The bond must be so strong that they can develop a connection that makes them an extension of the other.

Cadet can turn on his aggression in a second, and just as importantly, turn it right back off instantly. There can be no errors or hesitation.

Unlike a family dog, Cadet is not motivated by food while he undergoes his training. He is taught from a very young age that approval and praise from his partner is the most important thing. He is also taught that he will receive his favorite toy when the work is done.

A mere voice or hand command will instantly set Cadet off at a run, cause him to clamp his teeth on a suspect and hold, or to circle a suspect and keep him in one spot. With another command, he must be willing to release his bite and return to his handler.

Cadet is the perfect example of an unselfish and loyal partner. He would trust his partner with his life and would risk it without a thought if it is ever needed. Cadet's partner feels exactly the same way about him.
