In this episode, we unbox games from Video Games Monthly for the Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii, and even the Nintendo Wii U.

What are you to do if you like collecting retro video games but you don't have swap meets in your area, rummage sales are a bust, and there are no decent retro gaming stores? Well, one solution is to subscribe to video games monthly, a monthly delivery service that delivers three to 10 retro video games to your doorstep. Best of all, this is not a rental service, you get to keep the games. You can get games dating back to the Atari 2600, the Intellivision, and the NES forward to systems such as the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. We currently subscribe to the lowest tier of service, $34.99 per month to receive three games. Let's take a look at what we got for the month of November, 2023.

Nintendo Entertainment System:
Ghostbusters II

Nintendo Gamecube
Namco Museum

Nintendo Wii
Hot Wheels Track Attack

Nintendo Wii
Pinball Hall of Fame

Nintendo Wii U
Lego Marvel Super Heroes

Total Value:
$43

Initial thoughts:
Kind of a bummer that I did get a duplicate in Ghostbusters 2, but this just underscores the fact that I have a really large NES collection that I simply cannot completely manage through the video games monthly catalog any longer. I know I can send them a note to update my list, and I will have to do that. That being said, Ghostbusters 2 was the most valuable game in this box at $15. Why not as good as the highly desirable Japanese Famicom game, this is still a big improvement over the original.

I absolutely love the Namco Museum game for the GameCube, I played so many of these games in the arcade that having them on one compilation disc is definitely awesome. I love the fact that I also have my GameCube connected to my RetroTink 5X through component video cables, so my picture quality is amazing. While not the most valuable game in this box, definitely the one that I am happiest with.

The two Wii games are an interesting mix. I have no interest whatsoever in video pinball games, so for me that pinball game is a total bust. It's just not something I will ever play and something I will look to flip down the road. The Hot Wheels game is interesting as I've never played any, but I definitely had Hot Wheels tracks when I was a kid. If this is something where I can make and race my own tracks that could be quite a bit of fun.

The Lego Marvel Super Heroes game for the Wii U could be the sleeper in this collection for me. If you've played one Lego game you've pretty much played them all, and that's not a bad thing. They all are silly fun, combine destroying your environment with rebuilding it, and generally are a good time waster. I don't know that I will invest a whole lot into this, but it should be a fun game.
