You have to be fair with your corrections

There are bound to be plenty of things your dog will do that will bother you. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you should correct for all of those things. Some of those behaviors, while annoying as they can be, aren’t clear enough to your dog to correct for. The way we keep training and corrects fair to our dogs is knowing that they understand exactly what they are being corrected for. The correct can be attached to a specific behavior or lack thereof. If we correct for behaviors like sniffing, or spinning, or pacing (under the assumption that they aren’t breaking another command in order to perform the behavior), we can actually do harm to our dog’s training and our relationship with them.
