DEW's from The Past - Archimedes' Death Ray and More!

What's the history of DEWs? Over time, there have been numerous accounts of devices with the ability to ignite fires at a distance. The well-known Archimedes' Death Ray, while often dismissed as myth, has some supporting evidence for the existence of such technology in ancient times. Notably, there's usually no distinction made between Burning Mirrors and Burning Glasses. If these technologies were indeed present in the past, their potential applications beyond coastal defense, such as stone melting, raise questions.
