The Moon has been the target of numerous space exploration missions. The Apollo program, conducted by NASA, successfully landed astronauts on the Moon between 1969 and 1972. The last manned mission to the Moon was Apollo 17 in December 1972.
In recent years, there has been renewed interest in lunar exploration, with plans for both robotic and crewed missions. Various countries and private entities are aiming to return humans to the Moon in the coming decades.
