Ilyushin Il-76VD-90 in Antarctica russian mission
The new Zenith airport follows the Russian Antarctic Progress station for the first flight of the international airliner Ilyushin Il-76VD-90 from the Volga-Dnepr, organized by the South African company ALCI-UAL. This was reported by the Russian portal Avia-ru with reference to data from the press service of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI).
In particular, on board the Cape Town sailing ship they arrived at Antarctica on scientific and polar exploration routes from India, China, Russia and South Africa. The landing of the plane was ensured by the specialists of the Antarctic Russia expedition of the AARI.
From Cape Town Airport to Progress Station, Il-76 covers a distance of 5,300 km in 6.5 hours. On board the plane, 42 passengers and cargo were sent to Antarctica to the Russian and Indian station.
