U.S. DEBT INTEREST PAYMENTS TOP $1 TRILLION • VEHICLE KILL SWITCH MANDATE

The estimated yearly amount the U.S. is paying on its debt crossed $1 trillion at the end of October, a recent analysis by Bloomberg found. These annualized interest costs — which were calculated using U.S. Treasury data on monthly outstanding debt balances and average interest — have doubled over the last 19 months, according to Bloomberg.

The government has mandated a kill-switch in new vehicles sold after 2026. The kill-switch will monitor driver performance and disable cars based on the information gathered. Republicans joined with democrats to make sure it couldn’t be removed. By a vote of 229 to 201, the lower chamber rejected an amendment proposed by Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie to defund the mandate embedded in the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) on Thursday proposed to subpoena alleged human trafficker Jeffrey Epstein’s flight logs in protest of Democrats moving to target conservative activists affiliated with conservative Supreme Court justices.
