NASCAR fans, teams, and drivers had looked forward to racing in Phoenix since the season started back at Daytona in February. The Championship 4 races crown new champions for each series. It was a celebratory moment for the sport. Unfortunately, it was also littered with ugly controversy.

It started with an embarrassing blunder in the Truck Series race on Friday, which included an incorrectly marked restart zone, and concluded with a hotly-contested battle between eventual Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney and race winner Ross Chastain, which later resulted in accusations of race manipulation.

NASCAR has addressed both issues.
