Ego is the enemy

When we succeed in life, we should remember it is thanks to God's blessings. Though He expects us to work hard and do our part, there are so many factors outside of our control that contribute to whether we succeed or fail. The family we're born into, the chances we get, the skills we have, other people's input, etc. - these are gifts from God, and completely in His control, not ours.

When we recognize this truth, it helps us develop an attitude of humility and gratitude in regards to any accomplishments. We understand that we didn't achieve them solely by our own effort or merit - God's grace played a major role.

This perspective prevents us from becoming arrogant and feeling entitled, as if we alone are responsible for our victories. It reminds us to give thanks to the One who made our success possible, rather than letting it go to our heads and inflate our egos. Appreciating that all we have is a gift keeps us grounded in humility.
