WHAT THE HECK?!? Sega Genesis Games with Cardboard Boxes?!?

One major advantage that Sega had over Nintendo back in the day, whether we are talking about the Master System over the NES or the Genesis over the Super Nintendo, was the boxes that the games came in. See, Sega had a long history of providing reusable boxes with their games that gave you an exceptional way to store and display your collection. The Master System, the Genesis, and the Mega Drive all had these wonderful plastic clamshells for great games like Sonic the Hedgehog. Meanwhile, Nintendo opted to go with cardboard boxes which many of us, myself included, just threw away. What if I told you that Sega even had some games that featured cardboard boxes? It's true. Let's take a look.

While I have not seen many that do not have plastic cases, I actually own two different games that have this particular case design. One is Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind, a terrific platformer for the Sega Genesis. It's colorful, it has great music, and it's one of my favorite games on the system. The other game I have, and this was something that I picked up when I purchased a lot several years ago, is Mike Ditka's Power Football. Before the days of Madden NFL football on the Genesis, Accolade released this game on the system. I'm wondering if that is not the common denominator here, both Bubsy and Mike Ditka Power Football were both released by Accolade, and if memory serves me right, both were unlicensed, at least initially.
