Did You Know Which Doctors Receive Big Pharma Payouts is a Matter of Public Record?

If you want to know if your doctor(s) are receiving payments from Big Pharma, it is publicly available - this list has to be available to the general public by law.

This was mandated by law, called The Physicians Payments Sunshine Act which was enacted by Congress in 2010 as part of the healthcare reform law to increase transparency of financial relationships between healthcare providers and pharmaceutical manufacturers.

The law requires manufacturers of drugs, medical devices, biological, and medical supplies covered by the 3 federal health care programs (Medicare, Medicaid, and State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)) to collect and track all financial relationships with physicians and teaching hospitals and to report these data to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) fulfills the law’s mandate via the Open Payments Program.

The Sunshine Act does not restrict industry-physician collaboration or interactions, or prohibit payments or transfers of value.
