Wednesday, Governor Whitmer joined a group of governors to send a letter to congressional leadership supporting a supplemental appropriation for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) to ensure resources reach the communities that need assistance.
This comes in the wake as the conflict has escalated in Israel and Gaza, leading to elevated concerns of potential security threats to Jewish, Muslim, and Arab communities and their houses of worship across the United States.
Whitmer also said in her letter, “. Last week, I sent a letter to superintendents across our state, calling on them to protect every student’s right to free speech without fear. In this moment, we need to hold our values close and support each other.”
