Popular weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Mounjaro were originally used to treat diabetes. How safe and effective are they for weight loss? How do weight-loss supplements compare to medications?

As a rehabilitation specialist, Dr. Damon Noto MD frequently guides patients’ weight loss to relieve joint strain and to advance their overall health.

He returns for Vital Signs' ‘Weight Loss Round Up–Part 2’ to share his clinical insights and experience on weight-loss medications and supplements.

“We've never had a medicine before which could block hunger so well that people lose 15 percent of their body weight. So it's very powerful when people are losing 15 to 35 pounds within a few months.”

Many who have struggled to lose weight may see weight-loss drugs as their last resort. Particularly as the newer medications—like Ozempic and Mounjaro—can be more effective and safer than their amphetamine- or stimulant-type predecessors.

However, the new class of drugs are still not without their safety concerns.
“You can get something called ‘Ozempic face’ ... So what happens when you lose both fat and muscle, you also lose it in your face.”

Learn how to reduce the risks of weight-loss medications on Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon.
