SpaceX always strives to develop cutting-edge technology to propel it further ahead of the competition in order to achieve its highly ambitious goals. Nothing, however, stands out more than nuclear propulsion technology in terms of revolutionary technology. So how would a nuclear-powered Starship look? Meanwhile, Musk tweeted in 2019 that fast transportation around the solar system by a nuclear thermal rocket would make a great NASA research project. In his subsequent comments, he clarified that nuclear thermal rockets would be well suited for in-space transit, but would not be recommended as an Earth-to-orbit means of transport. The following is Elon's response to a story by Universal-Sci that mentioned how nuclear rockets can reduce the amount of time it takes to get to Mars from 240 days to 100 days. Then recently, the likelihood of SpaceX pursuing this exciting new prospect, whether on its own or for NASA, is increasing.
