Werewolf Riders? Wolf Riding Women! Wolf Riders of the Midwest

Here's a remembrance from a lifetime ago of having conversations with wolf-riding women who might have been werewolf riders. Were these Wolf Riders of the Midwest actually from another dimension or reality? Why did the witness report time seeming to slow down when she was near these women and their strangely obedient wolves? How could the wolves grow to be the size of horses?
