1. **Birth and Early Life (c. 1400):**

Didacus of Alcalá was born in San Nicolás del Puerto, Kingdom of Seville, into a poor but devout family. As a child, he embraced the hermit life and later became a wandering hermit under the guidance of a hermit priest.

2. **Entry into Religious Life:**

Didacus joined the Observant branch of the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans) and became a lay brother. He worked at various manual trades to support the brotherhood.

3. **Missionary Work in Spain:**

Didacus preached in villages surrounding Córdoba, Cádiz, and Seville, displaying a strong devotion. He was highly regarded in these regions for his piety and zeal.

4. **Missionary Work in the Canary Islands (1445-1449):**

Didacus was sent to the island of Lanzarote, part of the newly conquered Canary Islands. Later, he was appointed as Guardian of the Franciscan community on the island of Fuerteventura. His defense of the indigenous people against colonizers led to his return to Spain in 1449.

5. **Service During the Jubilee Year (1450):**

Didacus went to Rome during the Jubilee Year proclaimed by Pope Nicholas V. An epidemic broke out, and Didacus served as an infirmarian, miraculously curing many through his intercession.

6. **Return to Spain and Death (1450-1463):**

Didacus returned to Spain and lived in the Friary of Santa María de Jesús in Alcalá. He spent his remaining years in penance, solitude, and contemplation. He died on 12 November 1463 due to an abscess.

7. **Canonization and Feast Day:**

Didacus of Alcalá was canonized by Pope Sixtus V in 1588. His feast day is celebrated on 13 November, although in the United States, it is observed on 7 November.

8. **Miracle of the Roses:**

Didacus was associated with the Miracle of the roses. Accused of taking food from the monastery, he miraculously turned loaves of bread into roses when challenged to reveal the contents of his cloak.

9. **Healing of King Henry IV of Castile:**

Didacus's body was used to heal King Henry IV of Castile's injured arm. After the king kissed Didacus's hand and placed it on his arm, the pain disappeared, and his arm regained strength.

10. **Healing of Don Carlos, Prince of Asturias:**

Don Carlos, son of King Philip II of Spain, fell seriously ill and was partially paralyzed. Didacus's body was brought to him, and upon placing his hand on Didacus's chest, the prince fell into a deep sleep. He recovered and attributed his healing to Didacus's intercession.
