STORYLINE:\r
Israeli Defence Forces are continuing their assault into Gaza, as flares have been seen dropping into the Palestinian territory.\r

The conflict started after Hamas blew through Israel’s highly fortified separation wall on Oct. 7, and attacked an open-air music festival and Israeli border communities, killing scores of people and abducting men, women, babies and children — including elderly and disabled.\r

The Palestinian death toll in the Israel-Hamas war has reached more than 8,700, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza.\r

In the occupied West Bank, 130 Palestinians have been killed in violence and Israeli raids.\r
\r
More than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed, most of them civilians slain in the initial Oct. 7 Hamas rampage that started the fighting.\r

In addition, around 240 hostages were taken from Israel into Gaza by the militant group. One of the captives, a female Israeli soldier, was rescued in a special forces operation.\r
