The shortest war in history was only fought for 38 minutes. The Anglo-Zanzibar War was fought on the island of Zanzibar, which is close to Tanzania. Currently a part of Tanzania, this island was formerly a part of the British Empire in the 1890s. Here, a puppet Sultan who was imposed by the British passed away in 1896. After he passed away, the Sultan's brother Khalid gained control of the palace and began governing the island without consulting the British Empire. In response, Britain gave him till August 26 to leave the palace. However, on August 27, at 8 a.m. Khalid made it obvious that he would not be leaving. At 9am, Rear Admiral Harry Rosson of the British Navy gave the order to start firing to put an end to the uprising. Most of Khalid's artillery was reportedly destroyed at 9:02 a.m., and by 9:05 a.m He reportedly escaped, leaving his forces to engage in fighting. The final remnants of his forces withdrew at 9:40 a.m, that's how ending the shortest war in history.
