2. **Commander of Portugal’s Armies:** At the age of 23, he was appointed as the commander of Portugal’s armies by the Grand Master of the Knights of Aviz, later becoming King John I. He led Portuguese knights against Castilian forces to prevent falling under Spanish domination.

3. **Battle of Aljubarrota:** Blessed Nuno played a crucial role in the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. Despite being outnumbered, his well-organized Portuguese army defeated the Castilian forces, securing Portugal’s triumph.

4. **Spiritual Transformation:** After the death of his wife, Nuno became a Carmelite monk in the monastery he had founded in Lisbon. He embraced monastic life and took the name Nuno de Santa Maria.

5. **Bravery in Battle:** Nuno Alvares displayed remarkable bravery in battle. During a Castilian invasion, he faced a superior force, leading a charge even after being trapped under his fallen horse. His courage inspired his men, leading to a victorious outcome.

6. **Reciprocity of Respect:** In the monastery, Nuno showed great respect for a priest who had served under his command in the past. This mutual respect exemplified the Catholic spirit of recognizing others’ superiority and adding valor to Christian Civilization.

We also beseech Our Lady to restore Christendom and establish her Reign, allowing the magnificent values of the past to shine once again in society.
