California Travel Tips host Veronica Hill explores the La Brea Tar Pits and Page Museum in Los Angeles during this episode of "California Travel Tips."

The LA tar pits, formed more than 40,000 years ago, is one of the most fascinating free LA attractions. Located on Wilshire Boulevard, next door to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the tar pits in LA have produced the best collection of Ice Age fossils in the world.

Today, scientists are busy chipping away at Project 23, which produced a nearly intact Columbian mammoth named Zed. The main excavation at Pit 91 has been in use since 1969, making it the longest-running urban paleontology excavation in the world.
