The Gunpowder Plot was a scheme by a faction of radical Catholic English gentry that felt the best way to conduct a regime change on the reign of King James I and ensure a more Catholic friendly government was to detonate a massive load of gunpowder beneath the House of Lords, killing the entire English government.
