Carving a circular texture into this leather hard pottery bowl!

I really need to find a better tool to carve a circular crater into leather hard clay. My hands were hurting after this bowl but much of the problem was my terrible timing and allowing the clay to get just a little too hard. The heat has definitely been cranked up in the studio and it’s easy to forget to factor that into getting pieces to the ideal carving hardness.
Do you have any favorite tools for something like this circular texture?
