Einstein's owner sings him the lullaby, "Stay Awake" from Mary Poppins as he drifts off to sleep. Just like a child, Einstein fought as long as he could to stay awake! This lullaby is a favorite and the owners often sing it to Einstein as part of the going to sleep routine. You can see how relaxed Einstein is, knowing he is safe, listening to his owners voice. Watching it, you may even yawn and get sleepy yourself. Parrot require about 8-10 hours of sleep a night. They may not sleep the entire time, but they require the darkness because they have a circadian clock, and not getting enough rest will cause them to stress, just as it does when humans don't get enough rest too. Einstein will also take naps during the day, such as this one.

Parrot are prey animals, so when they rest, they are never totally asleep. Instinctively one part of their brain is always awake, looking out for that predator that might be near by. Even though Einstein is safe in the comfort of his home, he will still be watching and looking out. Einstein parrot lives with his family in Texas and was hatched on June 15, 1997. Einstein's favorite places to talk at home is perched on the shower wall, in the kitchen on his drawer, and on his screened in back porch. As stated on his website, Einstein's mission statement: “To entertain and bring joy, to foster the human-parrot bond, and to convey that parrots are deserving of immeasurable amounts of patience, nurturing, and companionship.”
