3 Great NIntendo Switch Games For Younger Kids For Christmas Presents
It seems like kids are growing up faster and faster these days, and having technology in their hands at a younger and younger age is more common than ever. As such, more kids are getting their own Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, or Switch OLED for the holidays, whether Christmas, Hanukkah, or other winter holidays. I often get asked this time of year for game recommendations appropriate for younger kids, under 8 years old or so. These are for less skilled kids, who haven't developed hand/eye coordination that the older kids have, or otherwise don't have experience with video games. Here are 3 great games that hold younger kiddos' hands and still are fun games for the entire family.
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze:
Arctic invaders have turned Donkey Kong Island into their personal frozen fortress, and it’s up to you to save the day. Play as Donkey Kong in Original Mode and team up with Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong—each with unique abilities—to overcome platforming challenges and frosty foes.
For a more accessible experience, start a game in Funky Mode to enjoy a range of gameplay updates and a new main-character option, spectacular surfing simian Funky Kong! His extra hearts and unique abilities make for a more relaxed gaming experience. And no matter which mode you choose, a wealth of collectibles and two-player co-op round out the fun!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe:
Burn rubber across Mushroom Kingdom raceways—underwater, in the sky, upside-down in zero-g, and past the finish—for the win! Get revved up for local multiplayer, online in-game tournaments, a revamped battle mode, and more! With many control options and handheld mode, there’s always a way to play on the Nintendo Switch system!
Super Mario Wonder:
Mario and friends have been invited to visit the colorful Flower Kingdom, just a short hop away from the Mushroom Kingdom. Unfortunately, King Bowser has transformed into a flying castle and is causing chaos across their peaceful land. Now our heroes must save the day—and the Flower Kingdom—in this wonderous new adventure!
Nabbit and Yoshis won’t transform with power-ups, but they also don’t take damage from enemies, so they’re perfect for players who are just starting out. Whichever color Yoshi you choose, they can all eat enemies, spit out stuff (enemies, shells, and other items), flutter jump, and help carry other players—even ones in Elephant form! With Nabbit, this sneaky little fellow can turn any extra power-ups he finds into flower coins. Ka-ching!
