Opportunity was a robotic rover that was part of NASA's Mars Exploration Rover mission. Launched on July 7, 2003, it landed on Mars on January 25, 2004, three weeks after its twin, Spirit. Opportunity's mission was to explore the Martian surface and geology, seeking evidence of past water activity. The rover operated for over 15 years, far exceeding its initial 90-day mission duration.

During its mission, Opportunity made several significant discoveries, including evidence that water once flowed on the Martian surface and that conditions may have been suitable for microbial life. It traveled a total distance of 28 miles (45 kilometers) on Mars, sending valuable data and images back to Earth.
