Aloha to Maine Street: A Disney Adventure in Nostalgia - We are a military family stationed in Hawaii and took a trip to Disneyland with our little girls. We met up with Grandma in Anaheim the night before embarking on a four-day marathon. Building memories, reliving the past, and driving our feet into the ground. A bit of a whirlwind, and a lot of effort, but well worth it. I mentioned the nostalgia. I think that is why people keep coming back to Disneyland over and over again. For me, it brings back memories of my grandparents and uncle.

Nostalgia is a powerful emotion that Disneyland, often referred to as "The Happiest Place on Earth," skillfully invokes. It represents a longing for the past, a sentimental yearning for cherished memories and experiences. Disneyland, with its timeless attractions, iconic characters, and classic rides, serves as a nostalgia-inducing haven. It's a place where adults can reconnect with their inner child and share the magic of their youth with new generations. The mere sight of Sleeping Beauty Castle or the sound of the "It's a Small World" song can transport visitors back in time to simpler, more carefree days. Disneyland, in essence, is a living embodiment of nostalgia, weaving the threads of the past into a vibrant tapestry of joy and wonder for all who enter its gates.

The first day started with rope-dropping Disneyland proper and heading straight to Matterhorn! This was Alex and Hailey's first time on the iconic mountain! Quickly followed by Indiana Jones, Big Thunder, the Haunted Mansion overlay, Tom Sawyers Island, and exploring the beauty and essence of the park! Just walking into the park fills me with warmth! The smell of freshly popped popcorn, the sugary aromas of handmade candies, and churros. The sounds of children laughing, talking with excitement. You can feel the happiness the second you walk into the park.

🪖 If you are new to our channel, John re-enlisted in the military after being out for ten years. Kind of crazy. But John was a Marine and he loved the Marines. Afghanistan Veteran. The only reason he got out was for me. Back before online jobs or school, he gave up the Marines and allowed me to start my career. I had an amazing career spending years growing and working with Target as a Store Director. But with Covid came many changes. One of those was to stay home and homeschool Alexandra. And so it opened the door for John to do whatever he wanted to do. He re-enlisted, but this time we both agreed on the Army. But after being out so long, John had to go through Basic training again or OSUT. Six months of that followed by waiting for command sponsorship for our first OCONUS move and the family has been apart for 10 months. Crazy considering this wasn't a deployment. But we made it! We are now stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii for the next 2 to 3 years and feel truly blessed to be here!
