Israel has confirmed it struck an ambulance in Gaza City which it said was being used by Hamas. The Gaza health authority said the ambulance was part of a convoy carrying wounded people from the besieged north to the south of the territory.

Israel began airstrikes and a ground offensive in Gaza after Hamas gunmen killed more than 1,400 people in Israel and kidnapped more than 200 others.

The health ministry in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, says more than 9,000 people have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza since then.

In Lebanon the leader of the Islamist group Hezbollah made a rare appearance and described the Hamas attacks on Israel as "right, wise and just". Hassan Nasrullah warned that the conflict in Gaza could escalate into a wider war.
