The northern white rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cottoni) is one of the two subspecies of the white rhinoceros, along with the southern white rhinoceros. It was once found in several countries in East and Central Africa south of the Sahara, but is now functionally extinct, with only two known individuals remaining, both of which are female.
