What If We Drained the Oceans?

What if we discovered a way to open a secret gate at the Mariana Trench's bottom and drain all of Earth's oceans? What would be the duration? Years? A century? A millennium? When the pumping stopped, would life on Earth survive? How about if it occurred over night?
