Apple announces the iPhone 15 Pro

After almost 5 years of holding onto the iPhone 8+, I finally decided to upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max in October 2023. The 8+ wasn't going to get another iOS update, so I decided this was a good time to upgrade. The 15 Pro Max is the first phone I have owned since the iPhone was given a dramatic redesign that started with the iPhone X. While I still wish the front of the phone was all screen with no cutout, I have been enjoying the bigger screen more than I thought I would. This is the first iPhone I ever bought with FaceID, 3 camera lenses, no home button, USB-C, an OLED display, a display with pro-motion, an e-sim, and 5G.

I thought I would miss the home button, but I don't. I am enjoying FaceID a lot more than I thought I would. Everything on my 15 Pro Max seems so much faster than my 8+. I am indifferent to Apple replacing the lightning port with USB-C, although I didn't like having to buy new cables. The OLED display is great. I love having pro-motion. The e-sim is nice. 5G is a lot faster than I thought it would be. Around 2021, when my financial situation wasn't that good, I tried going with pre-paid cell service, and I don't believe I'll ever go back to post-paid service. I have my 15 Pro Max set up with Mint Mobile, and so far the service has been excellent.

Now that I have experienced FaceID and a much bigger display, I wonder if I would have enjoyed the iPhone X. I resisted it when it was announced in a keynote because I thought the notch was stupid, and I didn't like the radical redesign. I don't know how long I will keep the 15 Pro Max, but I hope to hang on to it for at least 3 years. I also keep hoping that one day, Apple will finally make an iPhone that has a display with no cutout. One interesting thing worth mentioning is 256 GB of storage was the maximum available when I bought the 8+. 256 GB of storage is the minimum available with the 15 Pro Max. Wow.
