The director of the New York office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Craig Mokhiber, has resigned from his post, saying the UN is "failing" in its duty to prevent the genocide of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip. In doing so, he noted that the US, UK and much of Europe had become "complicit in a horrific attack."
In his October 28 letter to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, Mokhiber criticized the UN and announced his intention to resign from his position.
📝 "This is the last time I am formally contacting you as director of the New York office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Once again, we see genocide unfolding before our eyes and the organization we serve cannot stop it," he wrote. Mokhiber added that the governments of the U.S., Britain and a host of other European countries "not only refuse to honor their obligations to abide by the Geneva Conventions, but are in fact actively providing weapons for this attack, economic and intelligence support, political and diplomatic cover for Israel's atrocities."
