In this video, our panel will teach you the situational awareness skills you need to be safer in public.

We'll start by talking about the different types of situational awareness skills and how to develop them. We'll also cover how to monitor your surroundings and respond to dangerous situations.

This will not be our only video on this subject as everybody on our the SD team, and our pool of SMEs, all have unique perspectives and tips/advice.

Situational Awareness Recommendations ...
1. Trust your intuition, choose safety
2. Constantly scan the area
3. Lay off the weapons of mass distraction (phones) while in public
4. If you’re going somewhere unfamiliar check the crime stats for the area (CrimeGrade.org, NeighborhoodScout.com, ADT Crime Maps)
5. When first entering a business or public venue scan for the cash register (especially gas stations) if a robbery occurs that’s where the action will be
6. Position yourself for observation
7. Make a note of the exits, especially the fire exits that probably won’t be used as much, share the exit strategy with your group
8. Make a note of potential cover and conceal areas
9. Make a note of who is in the area, if something doesn’t look right, it’s not right, profile like a mofo and fvck political correctness
10. Watch for bulges in people’s clothing (who’s carrying, friend or foe?)
11. Watch for people fidgeting with their hands, common LEO practice to identify bad guys PAY ATTENTION TO BODY LANGUAGE & DON’T STARE
12. Assess the general “mood” of the place, is it volatile, are there people arguing, are there groups visibly upset with each other?
13. Acronyms SLAM (stop, look, analyze, manage) OR OODA (observe, orient, decide, act)
14. Stay in condition yellow or higher ALL the time when out of your home
15. Discuss all of the above with your party whether they want to hear it or not BE VIGILANT
16. Project a confident and aware posture
