The Salt Lake City Police Department released body-worn camera footage of an officer-involved incident that took place in October.

Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department stated that the investigation began around 12:15 a.m. on Oct. 8, when dispatch received information about a shooting that had just occurred near 923 South State Street.

Upon arrival, officers reported witnessing a car leaving the area at a high rate of speed, heading eastbound on 900 South.

The sole shooting victim, a 20-year-old man, was taken to the hospital by paramedics with a non-life-threatening injury.

According to police, they had information to believe that the people inside the car they observed speeding off may have been involved in the shooting.

Officers attempted to stop the car but the driver, identified as Josue Yahir Hernandez-Perez, 20, refused to comply and a pursuit ensued.

Hernandez-Perez reportedly crashed at 1100 East 900 South, causing the vehicle to roll over. The passenger, 21-year-old Douglas Rodriguez, died on scene.

Police said they believed Hernandez-Perez crashed as they were attempting to maneuver the roundabout at a high rate of speed.

In the video released on Wednesday, you can see the car on the grass with smoke coming out from the vehicle. Small conversations are had between the officers and Hernandez- Perez.

Hernandez-Perez was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers used firearms during this incident, nor were any officers injured.
