"Mahina and Isaac lived just below the Lahaina bypass. As they were celebrating a windy day off of work, they noticed smoke in the neighborhood. Shortly after, houses down the street were up in flames. Isaac did his best to fight the fire with some neighbors using hoses. Meanwhile, Mahina and her friends escaped on foot. On their trek to safety, they assisted some elderly people who were struggling to make it up a hill with their belongings. After getting to another house in a neighborhood further North, Mahina and a stranger went back for Isaac on a moped. Luckily, they found him, and made it back to Wahikuli. As the fire advanced into Wahikuli, they had to escape again, borrowing an old pickup truck to drive a few miles North to Napili.

Since the house they lived in did not burn, they are unable to get any help from FEMA or Red Cross. And although they lost their jobs at 505. Unemployment disqualified them for leaving the state following the disaster.
