Lincoln Heights community health center celebrating golden anniversary

The Lincoln Heights Community Health Center started out in a donated four-room apartment in 1967. This weekend, the organization is celebrating 50 years of service in northern Hamilton County.  When the group started, they were the first community health center in Ohio. Founder Dolores Lindsay said the original focus was on assuring that children and moms were healthy. The idea for the center grew from a school and community meeting about the lack of health care. "There were lots of people living on the edge, so to speak, in the communities that surround us," Lindsay said.  Fifty years later, the center is now Healthcare Connection, with 10 locations serving all ages in northern Hamilton County. Services range from medical to dental. But Lindsay said there's still more to do. "There's still unmet need that exists today," she said.  The Mount Healthy location has been there for 30 years. Plans are in the works to build a brand new one.  There have been many struggles, but there has also been lots of help from community partners,"" Lindsay said. "I'm not your doctor. I'm not a nurse," she said. "I'm just Dolores."
