Lone Gunman at Large

Law enforcement authorities in the Lewiston, Maine area are alerting local residents to the dangers of a lone gunman, thought to be yet in their midst. Eight murder warrants have been issued for the arrest of 40-year-old Robert Card of Bowdoin, still at large, after the shooting deaths of 18 victims in Lewiston on Wednesday night.
Closed circuit cameras captured images of the alleged gunman, who was reported to have spent two weeks at a mental health facility, last summer, after supposedly having heard voices telling him to shoot up a National Guard base in Saco, Maine. Card was said to have been a firearms instructor at that facility.
In addition to the dead, another 13 occupants of both a bowling alley and bar in Lewiston were reported wounded in the back-to-back shootings. Card is considered armed and dangerous and residents of the town are warned not to approach him if spotted.
Tragic as it is, this domestic tragedy illustrates the folly of the Biden administration’s attempts to prevent sane, rational gun owners from being able to protect themselves, their families, and friends. Not long ago, Biden asked, “Who needs a weapon with 100 rounds in the chamber?” The point being, not every citizen is a trained marksman like selected, domestic madmen or foreign terrorists. There is no guarantee you can hit your target and save lives if your weapon is a single shot bolt action or five-round revolver. And if your opponent, who doesn’t play by the rules, has a high-powered, high-capacity, military grade weapon, the odds are definitely not in your favor.
God gave us founding fathers who had experienced tyranny firsthand. They knew freedom would need a strong defense, without limits imposed by would-be despots. So, they wrote into the Bill of Rights a 2nd Amendment which gave us rights to bear arms which could not be abridged. With every new shooting, the gun control harpies take out their hammers and chisels to chip away at these foundational guarantees.
