Blackburn Buccaneer: Royal Navy MARITIME STRIKE!

The Blackburn Buccaneer (nicknamed the Banana Jet) was a carrier-capable attack aircraft developed by the British and first flown in 1958. Also operated by the Royal Air Force and South African Air Force, the Buccaneer was notable for its capacity for high-speed, very low-level attack runs, which provided a countermeasure to constantly evolving military radar systems of the period. RAF Buccaneers also saw active service during the 1990 GULF WAR as the air component of Operation GRANBY / Operation DESERT STORM where Buccaneers supported RAF Tornado squadrons with precision targeting for laser guided weapons. The BUCK was finally retired in 1994 after several decades of successful service. Today’s aviation art release depicts a Royal Navy FLEET AIR ARM Buccaneer in its element – low and fast over the sea!
