P-51 Mustang: All-American WW2 WARBIRD!

Taking to the air in 1940, the P51 Mustang answered a much-needed call when it entered operational service two years later. Specifically, a long-range, high-performance fighter that could tangle with and defeat the best the Luftwaffe had to offer. Escorting long-range bombers, such as the B-17 Flying Fortress, P-51 pilots were able to protect USAAF and RAF bomber crews all the way to target and back, and dealing with any Me 109s that cared to get involved along the way! To celebrate this Second World War legend, today’s AVIATION ART release depicts the P-51 ‘Cadillac of the Skies’ high in the dusk skies over Europe. Enjoy!
