Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a family of man-made chemicals that have been found in tap water across the United States, including in Boise, Idaho. PFAS are known as "forever chemicals" because they can stay in the environment for thousands of years. There are currently no federal regulations for PFAS in drinking water, but the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working to set limits. Idaho does not currently have any regulations for PFAS in drinking water, but there are some proposals in the works.
