Spontaneous songwriting with Marine Futin

I met Marine Futin working at Milkbar in Brooklyn a few years ago.
I remember asking her about New York and she mentioned that she´s a songwriter, I went to listen to her live at “The Path Cafe” in Greenwich Village, I really enjoyed her way of singing, playing and writing songs.

After returning to Sweden, we kept in touch and our friendship brought us together in Paris next time, where I guested her performance at a beautiful place in the city and a room filled with music lovers that had come out to listen to her live.

Just recently she traveled to Sweden and I invited her to
Studio Tonkontrol where I spend time rehearsing and writing music.

We met on a Sunday at noon and almost upon arrival I sat down by the piano to feel if there was anything there waiting for us, I am of course speaking about melodies, chords, words and harmonies.

To my surprise, a whole piece of music appeared naturally and Marine, seated next to me, were humming and sculpting a melody in real time,
all the while her daughter was playing around in the room,
it was very playful, carefully joined by her father and a videographer who captured the event.

I have always felt that songwriting is about “being a listener”,
“being perceptive” and with your awareness, “being able to receive” and or transmit what is being sent to you from the magical creative universe, where you as the writer, composer filter it with your available tools, and the abilities you at that time have attained.

I try my best to let it flow, similarly to how water flows, patiently nurturing the melody, lyric and composition, listening to it in my inner ears, and to not in any way create obstacles for it, neither judging what is being created, to let it be conceived as it is meant to, through you, until for some reason the connection is lost, by then hopefully I have created a musical memory of the song.
