Johnson vows to move $14.5 billion Israel aid package, setting up showdown with Senate

On Sunday, House Speaker Mike Johnson pledged to advance a $14.5 billion aid package for Israel once the House reconvenes later this week. This decision was made during his first GOP conference call since assuming the leadership role.

Johnson’s choice to present a separate funding bill for Israel, which he assured members would be fully funded, and to separate it from Ukraine aid, sets the stage for a potential confrontation with the Democratic-controlled Senate and White House.

They prefer linking these two issues, as standalone Ukraine aid faces an uncertain path in the GOP-led House, CNN reported.
