Celebrating International Observe the Moon Night on This Month NASA – October 30
International Observe the Moon Night is an annual event that takes place on or around the first quarter Moon, when it is well-placed in the sky for evening viewing. This year, it will be held on October 30, 2023.
NASA is celebrating International Observe the Moon Night with a variety of events and activities, both online and in-person.
**Online events**
* **NASA TV broadcast:** NASA TV will air a special broadcast about the Moon, featuring scientists, NASA experts, and lunar enthusiasts.
* **Virtual events:** Many NASA centers and International Observe the Moon Night supporters will be hosting virtual events, such as telescope tours, Moon talks, and family-friendly activities.
**In-person events**
* **NASA Langley Research Center:** NASA Langley in Hampton, Virginia, will be hosting an event on October 21, 2023, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event will feature Moon and solar system exhibits, hands-on activities, and telescope tours.
* **U.S. Space & Rocket Center:** The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, will be hosting an event on October 21, 2023, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event will feature Moon and solar system exhibits, hands-on activities, and telescope tours.
**How to participate**
Even if you can't attend an event, there are still many ways to participate in International Observe the Moon Night. Here are a few ideas:
* Go outside and look at the Moon! It's free and accessible to everyone, no equipment needed.
* Use a telescope or binoculars to get a closer look at the Moon's craters, mountains, and valleys.
* Take a photo of the Moon and share it on social media using the hashtag #ObserveTheMoon.
* Learn more about the Moon by reading books or articles, watching documentaries, or visiting a planetarium or science museum.
International Observe the Moon Night is a great opportunity to learn more about our Moon and celebrate its importance in our culture and history.
