Democratic Del. Danica Roem is looking for a promotion to the Senate against first-time candidate Bill Woolf in a Northern Virginia district seen as an outside pickup opportunity for Republicans. Roem, who is a biological male, became the first transgender-identifying person to be elected to a state legislature in the country.

At their first debate, which happened in early October after voting already started, the two candidates disagreed on abortion and whether parents should be notified about their child claiming transgender identity in school.
