Dr Akin has been practicing medicine since 2002. He earned his MBBS from Ibadan and completed his medical training as a family physician in Scotland and subsequently England from 2009 to 2015 when he moved to Canada.
He is certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). He has also been awarded a Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (DRCOG), a Post Graduate Certification in General Practice (PgCertGP) and Post Graduate Certification in Medical Education (PgCertME), as well as a Diploma in Diabetes while in the United Kingdom to name a few.
He has served several Alberta communities including Airdrie, Oyen, Stettler, and now Didsbury where he currently practices at the Trinity Rose Medical Clinic.
His insider experience with education and healthcare approaches from around the world gives him a unique insight into how to make Alberta better in one of the areas we take pride in – providing world-class healthcare to the people of this great province.
He is a clinical lecturer with the University of Calgary, and he teaches medical students, and nurse practitioners and mentors international medical doctors looking for an opportunity to work in Alberta. He has personally mentored over a hundred medical doctors working in Alberta. He co-started a company that looks after individuals with disabilities and special
needs and has over 50 people employed in his organization. For his contribution to the healthcare and disability sector, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2023.
He strongly advocates for individual rights, the ability for individuals to exercise their personal choice, entrepreneurship and certification of internationally qualified migrants hoping to contribute to Alberta’s economy. He believes that newcomers to Alberta have strong conservative leanings and should be welcomed into the UCP party.
