Dozens of States Sue Meta, It’s About Time!
It’s taken a long time, but states are finally taking action against major social media companies for the harm they’ve caused our kids. A total of 41 states are suing Meta because of the impact its social media platforms have had in driving the current mental health crisis among young Americans.
Back in 2017, Time magazine reported that, according to one survey, teens and young adults tended to associate Instagram with anxiety and depression far more than any other social media platform. But that hasn’t stopped the platform from becoming rapidly more popular.
According to a Pew Research study in 2022, in just 8 years, the number of kids between 13 and 17 who use Instagram has gone up by 10 percent — bringing the total to 62 percent.
There’s no doubt that social media isn’t good for kids, and while the first line of defense is always parents, it’s about time major tech corporations faced consequences for their role in promoting social media use among young Americans. Watch the video for more!
