The Truth Behind Why the USA Stopped Selling VW TDI

The discontinuation of VW TDI (Turbocharged Direct Injection) vehicles in the USA can be traced back to the emissions scandal that shook the automotive industry in 2015. Volkswagen was caught using illegal software to manipulate emissions tests, which allowed their TDI diesel engines to appear more environmentally friendly than they actually were. This revelation led to a loss of trust in VW's diesel technology, and as a result, the company had to halt sales of TDI models in the United States.

This decision had far-reaching implications for homeowners and potential buyers. It not only affected the resale value of existing VW TDI cars but also changed the landscape of eco-friendly vehicle choices.

We have a 2014 Passat and 2010 Jetta TDi. The Jetta has a little over 250,000 miles at the moment. It has taken a bit of money to replace parts with genuine VW parts, but it has really kept the car tight and not very noisy or rattly. I'm sad to see them disappear here in the states, I would love a VW TDi pickup!
