MSU & UM ROTC members running more than 60 miles for former student who died of cancer

Members of the Michigan State and University of Michigan ROTC programs are running the game ball for Saturday's big game from the Spartan Statue in East Lansing to The Diag in Ann Arbor all for a good cause. The run is part of Alex's Great Race in honor of Alex Powell, who was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of cancer after being accepted into Michigan State. After he died, his family was determined to create a tradition to honor his memory, and that's when the idea for the ROTC cadets to make a 64-mile run from MSU to UM before the annual game came to be.
