The Great Emu War: When Australia Declared War on Flightless Birds
1 year ago
34
In 1932, the Australian government initiated a campaign to deal with the overpopulation of emus in Western Australia. They deployed soldiers armed with machine guns to confront the emu population, resulting in a rather comical and peculiar event in history. The emus, however, proved to be quite elusive, and the "war" ended with more emus surviving than initially anticipated. This bizarre incident has become a source of humor and curiosity in popular culture.
