A group of brightly colored small to medium-sized birds belonging to the order Coraciiformes. Fish scales are found almost all over the world except Antarctica. They are most widespread in the Old World and Australasia. All species of the family Alcedinidae and sometimes the subclass Alcedines are known as maggots. There are three gotras of this subclass. The families are Alcedinidae (gang fish), Halcyonidae (gecho fish) and Cerylidae (drink fish). About 90 species of fish are found all over the world. Almost all of them have a head larger than their body, long, sharp and pointed beak, short legs and short tail. The bodies of most fish are brightly colored and there is little variation between males and females. Most of the fish live in the equatorial region and a large part of them are found only in forests.
