Built in 1892 on the 400th anniversary of Columbus voyage to the Americas, this statue built in honor of the explorer was the symbol for Italian immigrant to be accepted into American society. This was a common myth they could share with the country they now called home but yet resisted to accept them.

Just as Christopher Columbus was complicated, the mythology surrounding him in the 19th and 20th century was also complicated.

Now many question the future of this statue in the centerstage of NYC's busiest crossroads.

Here's a history of the statue in glorious 360 HD video!
